So how much does a plumber cost? At Pompey Plumb Ltd everything is based on an hourly rate, which you can find on the prices table below. Call-out charges apply to same day appointments and appointments booked outside of usual working hours.
If the job location is outside of the Portsea Island, the price is inclusive of the travel time, which is calculated using Google Maps for the ‘to and from’ the job location and the PO5 3JP postcode. The travel time is then added to the appointment time.
Booking fees are binding once an appointment has been booked and will only be refunded if we are unable to attend. If an appointment is cancelled by the customer, the booking fee will still need to be paid. Payment will usually be requested before the appointment if it is more than 48 hours away, but in many cases will be added to the final invoice.

For booked appointments, the hourly rate is used as a guide to price allotted appointment times. The job time will be estimated by the information given and an appointment slot booked out for that amount of time. The more information you can provide via pictures, video, description, ect. Will help us give a more accurate appointment time. If the job is completed within the appointment time then the full appointment time will still be chargeable. Appointment times will be given verbally but a written estimate for time and materials will be available on request from the customer. Pompey Plumb Ltd has no obligation to reduce the price by completing the job sooner than expected, but may in some cases give a discount at our discretion.
If a job runs over the allotted time, because a lack of information given/by no fault of our own, we may have to come back at a later time/date with the extra time being charged at that hourly rate. If another customer’s job has to be cancelled to accommodate the extended time, a booking fee plus the minimum of 1 hour will be chargeable. We will do our best to explain this before acting on it and to give the customer options regarding cost and completion time.
Because we focus on smaller jobs, such as, emergencies, remedial and smaller installations, we will charge for in person estimations, which will be the cost of a booking fee (see booked appointments table). However, if the job is accepted, no further booking fees will be applied to the future allotted appointment time. We are happy to provide free estimations via email, text message and also video call. If the customer requests an in person estimate and the job can be completed within 1 hour, we will normally resolve it there and then for the current hourly rate plus booking fee.
Materials we buy will not necessarily be sold to the customer at the rate we buy them for. We may add an additional percentage to items, which could be 30% for items purchased for £100 or over, 40% for items purchased for £50 to £100, 50% for items purchased for £10 to £50, and 100%+ for items purchased for under £10. This is to cover us for when items are faulty or need returning, as we will be liable for extra time caused by a fault. The customer is welcome to purchase products but then they would be liable for any lost time due to the item being incorrect (if we did not suggest the item) or faulty, which is charged at the current hourly rate. Any recipes for items we have bought are the property of Pompey Plumb Ltd and will not be passed on to the customer.
In the case sufficient time is not given when cancelling an appointment, or work is prevented from being carried out. The full appointment time, plus booking fee will be charged. Including the cost of non standard materials bought specifically for the job (materials will be left with customer) or a £25 service charge applied for returning the items.
